Principle 1 of 6

You approve before it leaves

Drafting, saving, sending and recording a payment are different actions. Asking for one never authorizes another, and automation stays off until you turn it on for a specific invoice.

Where it applies

Billie’s proposals. The invoice itself. Reminders and thank-you emails. Recording a payment.

What it means

An invoice is a financial document with your name on it. A sensible assistant proposes, shows the result and waits. Nothing is applied because you asked for a draft.

Step by step

Draft

You or Billie build a proposal. It is a proposal only: it is not applied until you accept it.

Save

Saving keeps the invoice as a record. It is a separate action from sending.

Send

Sending to the customer is the last step, and it is always yours.

Record a payment

A promise to pay is not a payment. You record a payment when the money has actually arrived.

Automation stays off until you turn it on

  • Reminders and thank-you emails are off until you switch them on for a particular invoice.
  • The final reminder waits for your approval before it goes out.
  • Reminders stop when the invoice is paid.

What it does not mean

  • It does not mean the app guesses. Totals and tax are calculated in whole cents by the application.
  • It does not mean slow. It costs about ten seconds, which is the point.
  • It does not mean tax advice. Invo.tax keeps records tidy and does not file returns.

Describe the next job. Approve the invoice.

Invo.tax is in an invitation-only beta for Canadian freelancers and small service businesses. If you have an invitation, your workspace is a few taps away.
